A little poem for....

I decided to write a poem for my two precious boys.  This is one of my least favorite things to write.  The challenge is about practicing writing.  Here you go, keep in mind this was just a quick shot at a poem.

My Two Little Boys
My little boys...
to meet you was God's gift,
you reminded me of the possibilities,
I promise to hold you close to never let go.

My little boys...
as you play I watch you learn,
I see your personality poking through,
I promise to keep you safe.

My little boys...
as you grow my grip loosens,
I will be here to hold your hand,
to help you stand tall.
I promise to encourage you through life.

My little boys...
keep in mind you are my world,
I will love you no matter what,
the world is yours for the taking.

  1. Beautiful! This is my favorite part:
as you grow my grip loosens,
I will be here to hold your hand,
    to help you stand tall.
    Nicely put.

  2. I love poems. I write poems when I don't know what to write sometimes. My definition of poetry is--just saying what is your my mind. Mondays are a good day for poetry.

  3. The line that grabbed my heart, because I've thought it so often "keep in mind you are my world" and they will always be your world, even when they are thirty years old. You've created a special poem for special boys.

  4. You should print your poem and frame it for you boys. I love your last line..."the world is yours for the taking" Nice job! Want to teach our 5th graders poetry? :)

  5. My favorite line was "to meet you was God's gift" because they really are a gift. I have two boys as well and you and Elsie are right; they are your world and always will be. Thanks for this lovely poem.
